Verify the media, not the consequences of bad media
A media formulation error is discovered through its effect on a culture, days later, after the run is compromised.
The measurement problem
Media is prepared in bulk, quarantined, sampled and released. The release test is compositional and slow, so it is run once — which detects a formulation error but not a preparation error introduced afterwards, and not a lot-to-lot difference in a raw component.
A rapid compositional check at the point of use closes that gap, and does it in seconds rather than in the time a queue at the analytical lab takes.
