Absolute distance, not just displacement

Application

Absolute distance, not just displacement

Interferometric displacement measurement counts fringes and loses its reference if the beam is interrupted. Comb-based ranging measures absolute distance, because the pulse train carries its own time reference — which also makes it suited to thin-film thickness and refractive-index measurement.

Where it is used

  • Absolute distance measurement over long working ranges.
  • Thin-film and layer thickness, including multi-layer stacks.
  • Refractive index determination from the same measurement.
  • Integration into inspection instruments as an OEM source.
